Scott Schaelen has extensive and diverse experience in the areas of contract litigation, construction disputes, real estate litigation, business litigation and surety law.  For nearly 18 years, he has fought for clients enforcing or defending secured payment rights, and disputes involving breach of contract, change orders, prompt payment, delay claims, and contractors' license law.

Mr. Schaelen has written for, advised, and championed property owners, contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, and suppliers on such topics as mechanic's liens, stop payment notices, private and public bonds, and claims avoidance and prosecution.  He has counseled many contractors, material suppliers and owners on all contract stages-from drafting and negotiation of contract terms to the collection of the money they are owed.

Mr. Schaelen is admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in California.  He has represented clients throughout California in court, administrative hearings and alternative dispute resolution (ADR), including arbitrations and mediations. He earned his B.A. from University of California, San Diego, a M.A. from San Diego State University, and his J.D. from University of San Diego.
